Voodoo Donuts Line is Lonnnggg

Started by koichi · 11 months ago

I was in downtown Portland on Sunday for the Flugtag, but didn’t make it in time. We saw the last flight, but it was nice to walk around anyways. We made our way to Voodoo donut, and I was all ready to take the Tex-Ass Challenge since I hadn’t eaten all day (it’s where you [...]

  • Yeah, Flugtag was kind of a clusterfuck. I don't think I've ever seen that many people in Portland in one place.
  • I thought you'd be there - I shoulda called. Hurry up and get back to school, then we'll play starcraft. I can host on my new internets, too, now!
  • I had some tendon pho yesterday. It was yummy.
  • I love donuts. I like bacon. I'm not sure about that donut...

My nextdoor neighbor made crepes and bananas foster for us this morning. We were late by 15 minutes and my friend isn't the most experienced cook....so these combined things meant mushy bananas... But they were still lit on fire and it was still delicious!
  • Whoa. I have never seen the line @ Voodoo that long! I usually go late at night though. I keep hearing that the bacon doughnut is the best ever, but until they make a vegetarian version I wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pole....

    :)
  • I had fried plantanes, "pupusas", and "pasteles". Does that count as interesting?
  • Man I'm hungry right now. :(
  • Interesting...like fried pig intestines? Just kidding; I haven't had those in years.

What exactly is Egg Flower Soup?
  • Hahahahah!! This is the shop that Anthony Bourdain visited in his Northwest episode! It's on my list to visit when I head down to Portland.

I've been eating Kimchi with everything for the last week. Meh momsy bought me a jar from Oly K-town.

Also made escalopes of chicken and figured out how to make the perfect scramble egg. Thank you Chef Ramsey :)
  • The donuts are really good, let me know if you come down, I'll take you to a few more awesome P-Town places.
  • If kimchee is good and donuts are good, then shouldn't a kimchee donut be good good? You should try it out, Viet, and let us know how it goes.
  • Sure, get the Voodoo guys to make one and I'll try it out.

According to the Bourdain episode, they also offer a Pepto Bismol donut. Is that any good? :P
  • Pepto Bismol Donut was discontinued, due to their lack of license for over the counter drugs. Sad, yeah?

Another good donut is the Tang donut...yes, it's covered in Tang powder.
  • I don't think you can put prescription drugs in food, period.
  • this weekend i was in mexico and i ate chips from there that look like branches(but arnt really tree branches they are more like a potato chip wrapped around to look like a branch)
and they were sooo good covered with a lot of spicyness and limon (i don't know if spicyness is a flalvor) but they left ur tounge burnt
like if u drank hot coffee before it was cool enough to drink
and well they are called takis fuego
fuego is fire and thats the "flavor" =]]]
  • wahh! i just commented yum! on the plastic crepes at tofugu.com. XD

    another yum! comment from me.

    yeahay koichi!

the pics make me hungry too!

    XD latez
  • Bacon... and a Maple Donut...? I'd really like to try that one day.

I've been back in America for about 2 weeks now (from Japan), and I really need to get some real, authentic Japanese food! I'm told that I'm just going through "reverse culture shock", but I don't care about that! I just want to eat some real ramen noodles again! Last night I tried to satisfy myself with Cup Noodles (complete with an egg on top), but it's just not the same....
    (-___-) ヤバイ!
  • おいしそうです。
  • Those bastards are closed almost every time I visit Portland. They know when I'm coming...
  • You must go on really weird days, since they're normally open 24/7
  • i would wait as long as it would take me to eat that *drooling*
  • Koichi, oh my goodness! I was searching for a bacon maple donut photo, and arrived here in a roundabout way. I came looking for a donut and saw your face in the video in the sidebar. I know that face!!

We traded e-mails a couple of times in the past, in response to your Godzilla videos. I went to Willamette, too. :-) I wish I could get one of those donuts! In the meantime, may I borrow your donut photo for my blog? I hope life is going well for you! Cheers!
